Auburn Car Tags in Mississippi

 Okay everyone - the wait is FINALLY over!!!!

The AU tags have been shipped to the county Tax Collectors offices (County Seats ONLY) & can be picked up starting Monday, Oct 1st!!!  When you go into the office, give them your name & let them know that you are one of the 1^st 200 applicants.  They will then issue the tag to you.  The expiration date will coincide with your current tag.

 Things you need to know:

The initial shipment was only shipped to the Tax Collectors office in the County seat of the counties that we had applications from.   For those that do not know your county seat see attached spreadsheet (MS_county-seats.xls) for reference.  Some Counties have 2 seats so please use this reference to find out where to pick up your tag.  DO NOT assume that you can pick up your tag at the same place you always pick it up!  For instance, Madison County Residents must go to Canton to pick up their tags even though they might normally get there tags in Ridgeland or Flora.  Canton is the county seat so Canton is where you must go to pick up your AU tag.  If you show up at either of the other two places asking about Auburn tags, they will more than likely not know what you are talking about. Yes, it's true, not everyone knows what Auburn is - bless their hearts!   

 It is VERY IMPORTANT that you go pick up your tag as soon as possible!  The window of opportunity is only one month starting October 1st.  If you wait longer than one month, you will be charged the $51 fee again.  So please go claim your tag by 10/31! 

 We ask that you please reply to this e-mail to acknowledge receipt.  This will help us expedite communication & keep us from making 214 phone calls!  Please do this for us! 

 We hope this process goes smoothly, but as you know, The Murphy family is always looking for a place to crash.  If you encounter any problems whatsoever, please feel free to contact myself @ (601.503.4090) or other committee members & hopefully we can resolve the issue quickly.

 Please note that some of the offices might require you to turn in your current tag before issuing the AU tag to you.  This is policy, BUT I assumed that some of you would like to keep your current tag as a souvenir because it is personalized or whatever so I went ahead and made this request to the State Tax Commission.  This request was approved for but not communicated to all offices.  However; the date sticker must be removed by the Tax Commission.  Otherwise the tag is technically still an active plate.  IF you are in this situation & have any trouble, please be sure to have them call Patsy Holeman at the State Tax Commission for clarification.  I already have this cleared for Madison County, but not the others so you might get a little resistance.
